Alberto Tallone founded the publishing house in Paris in 1938, taking over the only 18th-century original typographic studio still in activity and its vast endowment of original foundry types, enriching it with its own Tallone type.
The idea that beauty could merge into truth sprung naturally within Tallone”, once commented literary critic and friend Gianfranco Contini. The Bergamo-born publisher believed that the aesthetics of the book and philological accuracy should always go hand in hand.
The long history of this publishing house and its catalogue – brimming with masterpieces printed in the original languages – are a testimony to the fact that he reached his goal, pursued today by his son and grandchildren.
Tallone’s opus is particularly appropriate as the contemporary link in the great tradition of Italian fine printing, from Manutius to Bodoni.
