Ibis targets newspapers and 2-up A5 production with new Smart-binder X ‘stretched’ model
Ibis Integrated Bindery Systems, specialized in digital in-line saddle stitching, has today announced the launch of its latest model, the Smart-binder ‘X’, that will also target the newspaper market.
The new system has been stretched to increase maximum booklet format size to 18 x 11 inches. It can therefore be used to produce A5 portrait booklets 2-up – at very high production speeds using the optional trimmer centre-knife – or to produce tabloid sized newspapers 1-up.
The first new Ibis SB-X is now being used in production at a customer site in the USA to produce 2-up A5 portrait booklets. The SB-X is now released and available for general supply.
John Cracknell, Managing Director of Ibis, said: «The launch of the Smart-binder ‘X’ is another important milestone for us. The system is the only in-line digital saddle-stitcher available worldwide to produce variable data tabloid size products, or A5 booklets 2-up at 10,000 books per hour. It is also an ideal solution for tabloid size production newspaper production, which can be produced with variable page content and with the option of wire stitch or cold glue binding, or no binding. Newspaper ‘sections’ may be collected together into finished newspapers on the Ibis SB-X delivery and an optional final knife-folder if available, if needed.»
He added:«This launch is another example of our commitment to meeting our customers’ needs and to satisfy a growing demand for our market-leading systems that make digital print more relevant and immediate to the recipient.»
Ibis, which is celebrating its 15th year of operation in 2014, continues to strengthen its direct links with all digital printer manufacturers while at the same time building on its global distribution and support network with service and distribution agreements with other companies.
